Observation tower

A 22-meter-high tower

Best view of Bern

The Gurten Tower is 22 meters high, which means that when you reach the top, you are a few meters higher than the 858 meters above sea level indicated on the Gurten. From here, when the weather is fine, you have a fantastic panoramic view over half of the Swiss Mittelland, the mountain range with the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau, as well as the surrounding area of Schliern, Köniz, and Bern with its agglomeration communities. On this 360° platform, you can test and enrich your knowledge thanks to the panorama board.

Something of lasting value

In 1998, the Bern and Surrounding Area Master Builders' Association wanted to create something “of lasting value” to mark its 100th anniversary. This led to the idea of building a viewing tower on the Gurten. In November 1999, the time had come: together with the Bern Lottery Fund, Swisscom, and Migros, financing was secured and construction could begin.
